The planet carrier is one of the main components of the planetary gear transmission. The planet axle or bearing is mounted on the planet carrier. When the planetary gear is used as a basic component, it is the part of the mechanism that bearing the most external torque. The structural design and manufacture of the planetary gears have a great influence on the load distribution among the various planetary gears as well as the bearing capacity, noise and vibration of the transmission.
The rational structure of the planet carrier should be light weight, good rigidity, easy processing and assembly. The common structural forms include three-sided plate integral type, double-sided plate split type, and single-side plate type. The integral rigidity of the double sided plate is good. If this type of structure is used for overall forging, then the amount of cutting is very large. Therefore, it is possible to obtain the blanks with structures and dimensions close to the finished ones by means of casting and welding methods. However, care should be taken to eliminate casting or welding defects and internal stresses, and whether the side will affect the strength of the planetary carrier. Processing quality and deformation may occur during use. The separation of the double-sided plates is more complex than the overall structure and is mainly used in the case of relatively small transmissions. Because the diameter of the planet wheel is smaller at this time, the planet bearings are often mounted on the side wall plates of the planet carrier so that the outer diameter of the planet carrier is greater than the diameter of the inner crest circle; the center hole of the side plate of the planet carrier is smaller than the sun gear.
